Skill Standards for Entry-level to First-line Supervisors in Manufacturing Production and Logistics Areas were developed in cooperation with non-profit organizations, education entities, businesses, labor organizations and government agencies. Authorized by the National Skill Standards Act, these standards are designed to ensure that front-line workers in manufacturing companies have acquired and developed the skills necessary to be vibrant and productive workers. The project aimed at establishing a voluntary national system of skill standards, assessments, and certifications that will enhance the ability of U.S. manufacturers to compete effectively in the global economy. NACFAM’s Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) was the first industry-based voluntary partnership that was recognized by the National Skill Standards Board to develop the production area skill standards and to design associated assessment and certification systems, thereby enabling full implementation and continuous improvement of this initiative.
