Sustainable Manufacturing Initiative

Sustainable Manufacturing and Intense Collaboration within Network-Centric Manufacturing

Sustainable manufacturing goes beyond just lean and green work within individual companies. Sustainability is dependent upon multi-stakeholder engagement. That is an important aspect of the Triple Bottom Line (developed by John Elkington) which also emphasizes financial profitability, environmental integrity, and social equity. Unlike traditional supply chains, improvements to sustainable manufacturing necessitate involvement and cooperation among many “outside” stakeholders, lending itself to a more “network-centric” based model. Innovation solutions require a high level of trust as supported by “intense” collaboration partnerships and new governance practices. NACFAM is the leading non-partisan, non-lobbying national broker for network-centric based “intense” collaborations and relevant support mechanisms.

The commitment for Council members would be at least one annual face-to-face meeting (the annual meeting), a few one hour conference calls and general email correspondence. The Council will have an important role in directing the Annual meeting and AMLF activities on Sustainable Manufacturing Initiatives and will help set NACFAM’s Sustainable Manufacturing policy and research focus.

If you would like to receive more information or sign up to participate in this Council, please email Paul Fowler on the NACFAM staff.
